Uncle Rhabdo.

Remember how I told you when I joined Crossfit they had me sign something about me possibly dying? Well, hey, MORE INFO ON THAT HERE.

It’s better known by Crossfitters as “Uncle Rhabdo,” and it’s definitely serious shit. Rhabdo is short for rhabdomyolysis, a rapid breakdown of muscle fibers that can occur when the body is pushed too hard. If left untreated, it can cause serious long-term kidney and muscle damage – and even death.  Kidney failure is one of the biggest fears that comes out of this.

The symptoms might be there without you even knowing it, as sore muscles are a part of it.  One of the biggest tell-tale signs is, oddly enough, your pee. If it’s a dark brown or Coca-Cola color, beware; this discoloration is caused when myoglobin released by the muscles when they break down is excreted into urine.

NOT TO SCARE YOU. But just be aware. My pee seems fine so far, so I think I’m good to go.
